“The board reporting process and board meetings are now more slick and engaging than I can remember — and I’ve been the company secretary for over 15 years.” ~ John Constantin, General Counsel & Group Company Secretary
GBG, the global leader in identity intelligence, engaged Board Intelligence following an internal review of its board effectiveness.
The review found that GBG’s board reports were cumbersome to produce, the content was overly complex and the board packs were unengaging. The Board was frustrated that too much of its meeting time was spent discussing retrospective performance rather than focusing on the strategic, forward-looking priorities, and it felt that it was not as effective as it could be.
We ran a two-hour workshop, tailored to the needs of GBG’s Executive Team, to share the principles underpinning best practice board reporting. We listened to their concerns and needs around their current reporting process and, in response, our interactive workshop covered:
“I now enjoy writing my report and don’t see it as a chore.” ~ A member of the GBG Executive Team
The workshop has been transformational for GBG’s Executive Team who have been upskilled to deliver consistent and high-quality reports across the board pack.
Unwanted and superfluous content that had become a standard feature of reports has now been removed. The reports are clearer, more concise and highlight the points that matter, eliminating the fear that critical detail is hidden within the myriad of pages. And the question-answer approach to structuring reports helps authors remain focused and avoids unnecessary duplication.
GBG now enjoys a more structured agenda, with clearly delineated supervisory and steering items and sufficient time allocated to both. Furthermore, board meetings now have fewer PowerPoint presentations, instead favouring shorter verbal briefings. GBG has reported more engaging and productive Board discussions, and overall a more effective Board.
“Since undertaking the training, the satisfaction and engagement scores of our board packs and meetings have increased by 25%.” ~ John Constantin, General Counsel & Group Company Secretary
